Our Shared Foundation

Our Guiding Principles

These principles express the values at the heart of The Mended Circle. They guide how we gather, support one another, and grow as a community while honoring the many different paths that can lead toward recovery.

They are not requirements for belief or recovery. They are shared commitments intended to foster connection, respect, personal autonomy, and belonging.

The Principles

What Guides Our Circle

We return to these principles as a foundation for our gatherings, relationships, and work within the community.

Recovery Is Personal

There is no single path that works for everyone. We respect each person’s right to define and pursue recovery in the way that is meaningful and sustainable for them.

Connection Supports Healing

Recovery does not have to happen in isolation. Honest connection, shared experience, and mutual encouragement can help us move forward.

Participation Is Always Voluntary

Everyone may choose whether to speak, listen, participate in an activity, or simply be present. No one is required to disclose personal experiences or explain their recovery.

Many Paths Belong in the Circle

Paganism includes many traditions, practices, and beliefs. No particular deity, tradition, spiritual practice, or understanding of the divine is required to participate.

Privacy Is a Shared Responsibility

Members are expected to protect the identities and personal stories of others. What is said here should stay here. Anonymity is paramount to fostering an environment where all feel safe.

Consent and Boundaries Matter

We respect personal boundaries and ask before offering advice, physical contact, spiritual practices, or assistance. “No” is a complete answer and does not require an explanation.

Lived Experience Has Value

We share from our own experiences rather than speaking for others. We offer support as peers, recognizing that no member holds authority over another person’s recovery or spiritual path.

Accountability and Compassion

We encourage honesty, responsibility, and growth without shame or humiliation. Mistakes can be acknowledged, repaired where possible, and used as opportunities to learn.

Service Strengthens Community

We support the circle by contributing according to our abilities—through listening, welcoming newcomers, sharing responsibilities, offering time, or helping care for the community.

Progress Not Perfection

Recovery and spiritual growth are ongoing processes. We honor effort, celebrate progress, and leave room for people to begin again..
